Objective:
The objective of King of the Hill is for players or teams to control a designated "hill" or area for the longest period of time during each half. Players or teams use foam swords to eliminate opponents, and optional bow fire can be used to disrupt the other team's attempts to hold the hill.
Setup:
Teams/Players:
Divide players into two teams or have them compete individually (depending on the group size). For team play, each team should have the same number of players.
If using bows, designate a number of archers per team and position them on the sideline (outside the hill area).
Play Area:
Define the hill area—this could be a circle, a platform, or any clearly marked section of the play area. This is the primary area players must control.
The rest of the play area is for roaming and combat, but players must be in the hill area to score points.
Equipment:
Foam Swords: All players must use foam swords.
Optional Bows: If using bow fire, archers are stationed along the sideline and can shoot at players in the field.
Hit Points: Each player has 2 hit points. Players are eliminated after taking two successful hits (from either swords or arrows).
Respawn Point: Players who are eliminated must return to their team’s respawn point for 20 seconds before re-entering the game.
Game Rules:
Hit Points:
Each player has 2 hit points. A player is eliminated after being hit twice with foam swords or bow shots.
Headshots are prohibited. Only hits to the torso, arms, or legs count.
Once eliminated, players must proceed to their respawn point for 20 seconds before they can rejoin the game.
Control of the Hill:
The Hill Area is the focal point of the game. Players must fight to occupy this area to score points.
A player or team controls the hill when they are the only ones occupying the hill area. If opponents are in the hill area, no team controls the hill.
The hill must be controlled for 10 continuous seconds for points to be scored. The team or player who controls the hill for 10 seconds earns 1 point.
If no one controls the hill, the timer resets for the next attempt.
A player must be physically standing within the hill area to score points. The team or player earns points only when they are physically in the area (e.g., standing in a designated zone).
Optional Bow Fire:
Archers on the sideline can shoot foam-tipped arrows at players who are contesting the hill.
A successful bow shot reduces 1 hit point from the player’s total hit points. If a player is tagged by an arrow, they lose 1 hit point, and that may lead to their elimination.
Archers have a limited number of arrows (e.g., 5 arrows per half). Once they run out, they cannot shoot again until the next half.
Bow shots are considered hits only if they land on the body or limbs of the players. Headshots are prohibited.
Archers must remain behind the sideline and cannot engage in melee combat.
Respawn:
When a player is eliminated, they must return to their team’s respawn point for 20 seconds.
During the 20-second respawn time, the player is not allowed to participate in the game, nor can they interfere with other players.
After the 20 seconds, the player can re-enter the game and attempt to help control the hill again.
Game Time:
The game consists of two 15-minute halves. After each half, there is a short break (around 5 minutes) to allow teams to regroup.
The half ends when the timer runs out. Points are totaled, and the team with the most points at the end of both halves wins.
If no one controls the hill for long periods, it could lead to fewer points being scored, creating more opportunities for combat and strategy.
Winning the Game:
The team or individual with the most points at the end of the two 15-minute halves wins the game.
If both teams have the same score at the end of the game, the match can be declared a tie, or a sudden-death overtime can be played.
Players score points by holding the hill for 10 seconds or by using strategy with bow fire to eliminate opposing players before they can control the hill.
General Conduct:
Players should avoid excessive force when using foam swords. The goal is to eliminate opponents safely by tagging them with controlled hits.
No headshots are allowed. Players should only strike the torso, arms, or legs.
No excessive delaying: Players cannot stall the game by avoiding the hill area or by hiding for prolonged periods.
If a player leaves the designated combat area (e.g., runs too far outside the boundaries), they will be automatically eliminated for the round and must respawn.
Teamwork:
Teams must work together to eliminate opponents and control the hill area. Strategic use of both sword combat and archery can significantly impact the game.
Players should work with their team’s archers (if applicable) to defend the hill, push opponents out, and protect the hill from being overtaken.
Safety Guidelines:
Foam Sword Safety:
All foam swords used in the game should be soft, lightweight, and free of sharp edges. No hard components should be present.
Players should avoid swinging foam swords too aggressively. Always use controlled, light strikes to ensure safety.
Headshots:
No headshots allowed for the safety of all players. Players should only aim for the body or limbs.
Bow and Arrow Safety:
Only foam-tipped arrows should be used. Archers must shoot only at the body or limbs of players (no headshots).
Archers must aim carefully, avoiding any unintentional targeting of players not in the combat zone.
Boundaries:
Players must stay within the defined hill area and overall game area. Players who leave the area are eliminated and must respawn.
Clear boundaries must be established to avoid confusion during the match.
This King of the Hill format ensures exciting gameplay with a mix of sword fighting and strategic archery, offering players the opportunity to test their skills while battling for control of the hill!
